Police CID invites GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi

The Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service Headquarters, Accra, have invited Ghana Football Association President, Kwesi Nyantakyi to assist in investigations into complaints that he used President Akufo-Addo’s name for crime.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday reported Nyantakyi to the CID on the grounds that the latter used his name and the names of other senior members of government for inducement.

Deputy Chief of Staff, Samuel Abu Jinapor explained that the President’s complaint to the Police CID stemmed from video recordings of Nyantakyi contained in the latest undercover work of investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas, which seeks to expose graft in Ghana football.

He said ahead of the public airing of the documentary labeled as #12, a select privileged individuals, including President Akufo-Addo, have been shown the video.

“The President of the Republic has had the privilege of viewing aspects of this investigative piece and in this documentary, the President of the Ghana Football Association, Mr. Kwesi Nyantakyi is supposedly seen attempting to use the President’s name and that of the Vice President and other senior officials of government to induce supposed potential investors into our country to part with various sums of monies.

“The President as a responsible citizen and indeed and in fact and particularly as the chief custodian of our laws and enforcer of our laws, has had to consult and evaluate the contents of this investigative piece. The President after these consultations is fully satisfied that a prima facie basis has been established for criminal investigations to be launched into the conduct of the president of the Ghana Football Association,” said Samuel Abu Jinapor.

Graphic learned late yesterday however, that Mr. Nyantakyi had traveled out of the country on official assignment for the Confederation of African Football (CAF), where he is Vice President.

Nyantakyi is a banker and a lawyer, and owns Premier League side Wa All Stars.
