Critical duties

The President underscored the critical role the security agencies played in promoting national peace and development.

Consequently, he said, the government was determined to make them fully mobile, especially during this election year, so that they would be able to carry out their mandate without any major hitches.

On the Prisons Service, he said he was aware that some officers conveyed suspects on remand to court in commercial vehicles, which was not good for the image of the service.

He, therefore, expressed the hope that the vehicles would go a long way to improve the situation.

National Emergency Command Centre

The President had earlier inspected the National Emergency Command Centre project which is meant to enhance the security of the nation through a massive monitoring platform.

It is a nationwide project but the Greater Accra Region is being used as a pilot.

It has, among other facilities, integrated video systems which enable the National Security to monitor places of interest at a command centre.

It will also assist the other security services in their operations to enable them to respond to various threats promptly and ensure the safety of the people.
