‘Protect civilians now’ — IHRC’s strong Eid appeal over Israel-Iran tensions
The International Human Rights Commission (IHRC) has used this year’s Eid al-Fitr celebrations to call for global unity and renewed efforts towards peace, particularly in the conflict-affected Middle East.
In a message delivered by its Deputy Chairman, Abu Zein, the commission extended warm greetings to Muslims worldwide while expressing concern over escalating violence in the region. The statement comes as millions of Muslims mark Eid, a period traditionally associated with reflection, compassion and solidarity.
The IHRC noted that this year’s festivities are being observed against the backdrop of heightened tensions involving Israel, Iran and the Iran-backed group Hezbollah, with hostilities also affecting parts of Lebanon and Palestine.
According to the commission, the ongoing violence has led to significant civilian casualties and widespread displacement, raising serious humanitarian concerns. It stressed the need for restraint and urged all parties involved to prioritise the protection of civilians and respect for human dignity.
"The International Human Rights Commission stands in solidarity with Muslims globally as they celebrate Eid ul-Fitr,” Ambassador Abu Zein said.
He further called on global leaders and institutions to intensify efforts towards a peaceful resolution of the conflict, noting that dialogue and cooperation remained critical to restoring stability.
"We also urge the international community to work towards a lasting peace in the region, protecting human rights and dignity," he added.
The IHRC reaffirmed its commitment to promoting human rights and fostering peaceful coexistence across nations, emphasising that the spirit of Eid should inspire collective action towards justice and harmony.
As celebrations continue around the world, the commission encouraged individuals and communities to uphold the values of compassion, generosity and unity, particularly in times of uncertainty and conflict.
