‘Rededicate yourselves to fighting crime’

The Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Nathan Kofi Boakye, has asked personnel of the service to rededicate themselves to fighting crime in order to win the trust of the people.

He said if personnel showed commitment to their work and sacrificed their comfort to ensure security for the people, “there is nothing the community will not do for them.”

He contended that when people showed commitment to their work, even without asking for assistance, people went to their aid in their time of need.

Police station

Mr Boakye was speaking at the inauguration of a police station at Ahenkro in the Afigya Kwabre District. The police station was built by the Chief of Ahenkro, Nana Osei Ababio III, after unsuccessful attempts to get the government to build one for the community.

Mr Boakye underscored the need for public-private partnership in the provision of social amenities for the people. He said the government could not shoulder that responsibility alone and would, therefore, need the support of all. He thus appealed to chiefs and philanthropists to help extend security services to some of the communities that did not have police stations.

Mr Boakye also said policing was a shared responsibility between the public and the Police Service and appealed for support for the service.

Unfulfilled promises

Nana Osei Ababio said the traditional authority decided to build the police station after many unfulfilled promises by politicians.

He also said the need for a police station became evident following deviant behaviours in the community, as well as the need for police presence to ensure security for the residents.

He asked the Police Service to take good care of the facility for it to last.
