Refurbished Accra GRA office inaugurated

The refurbished Accra Collection Office of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has been inaugurated.

The Accra Collection Office was built in 1926, when James Town was a port.

The refurbishment was funded by the Ghana Community Network Service Limited (GCNet), an electronic solutions service provider.

The Commissioner of Customs, Mr Kuudamnuru John Vianney, who cut the tape to officially open the refurbished offices, commended the collaboration between the GCNet and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) to create a congenial working environment for personnel.

“The significant investment in the refurbished Accra Collection office of the Ghana Revenue Authority Customs Division at James Town represents a broadening of its commitment to excise activities and tax sales,” Mr Vianney said.

He stated that the GCNet had provided equipment and furniture for personnel of the collection centre.

Mr Vianney tasked the officers to work hard to enhance the performance of the Accra Collection, adding that the service would not permit any infractions.

GCNet support

The Commissioner of Support Services Division of the GRA, Mr Gabriel Katamani, expressed the hope that the refurbishment of the offices would motivate staff to double their collection.

He expressed gratitude to the GCNet for recognising the importance of the Jamestown Collection and added that efforts were underway to fence the office and protect it from the sea.

The Deputy General Manager of GCNet, Mr Emmanuel Darko, said his company had over the years sponsored the refurbishment of a number of GRA sites.

He listed the sponsored projects to include the re-roofing of the Aflao and Elubo stations, provision of air-conditioning and security grilles at various GRA sites.

Accra Collection

The Sector Commander of the Accra Collection, Ms Christina Akoto-Bamfo, took the guests on a tour of the facility and said the Accra Collection Office was built in 1926.

She said the Accra office was currently one of the 13 collection points of the GRA Customs Division responsible for excise activities and also for the registration of all sales tax.

It has staff strength of 187 and controls 215 bonded warehouses, 386 manufacturers and 55 free zones companies.
