Road Safety Authority urges motorists to exercise caution during Easter

The acting Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Abraham Amaliba, has urged motorists to exercise caution and prioritise safety during the Easter holidays.

The Easter period, which spans from Friday to Monday, is typically associated with increased vehicular movement, often resulting in a surge in road traffic accidents.

In a television interview with Channel One, Mr Amaliba stressed the importance of adhering to road signs, observing speed limits, and avoiding reckless behaviour—particularly when driving through towns and densely populated areas.

“Now that we are approaching Easter, we must drive safely, we must observe road signs, and we must not engage in competition with other drivers. I would advise that if you are being overtaken, do not accelerate. The one overtaking you would have already assessed your speed and that of the oncoming vehicle. If you increase your speed while being overtaken, it distorts the timing," he explained.

He further warned that any driver found violating road regulations would be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
