Robbers kill trader on Tatale-Sangule road
An unspecified number of people believed to be armed robbers last Thursday night shot and killed a trader who was returning from Sanba on the Tatale-Sangule road in the Northern Region.
The trader who has been identified as Sherifa Innusah, 40, was among a group of traders numbering about 30, on board a Kia Rhino Truck, with registration number AS 9676-14.
She was sent to the Yendi Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival and has since been buried in accordance with Islamic tradition.
The incident, according to the police, happened at Bekomkolibe, a village on the Tatale-Sangule road, where the robbers had blocked the road to rob traders who were returning home on a market day.
The robbers were alleged to have fired at the truck indiscriminately when the driver failed to stop after they had signaled him to do so.
The robbers had barricaded the road, but the driver managed to drive through the road block.
Two other persons who also sustained gunshot wounds have been transferred from the Yendi Government Hospital to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) because of their critical conditions.
They have also been identified as Abdulai Hosdao,40, the driver of the truck, and Rashai Seidu, 40, also a trader.
The Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Ebenezer Tetteh, told the Daily Graphic the incident was the third to have occurred on the Tatale-Sangule road this year.
