Rotary's Interact club marks 58th anniversary

Interact Club District 9102 (Ghana branch) has organised a health walk to climax its week-long 58th anniversary celebration. 

Interact is a Rotary-sponsored service club for young people.

The event which took place on Saturday, November 9, 2019 was intended to create awareness on the need for young people and the public at large to practice good sanitation.

Eight Interact school clubs including Aquinas Senior High School, Accra High Senior High School, Deks Preparatory school, Labone Senior High School, East Airport International School, Association International School, Penfield Preparatory school and Jack and Jill International School took part in the walk.

It was led by the Country Chair of Rotary Interact, Mr Johnson Dweben, with 285 Interactors supported by Rotaractors and Rotarians in attendance.

The walk started at 9:00 a.m from the Jack and Jill school at Roman Ridge in Accra through Roman Ridge International School, along the Aviation street, through the Roman Ridge Presbyterian School and back to the Jack and Jill school at about 10am, where the participants were taken through some aerobics.

Entertainments

The event was crowned with entertainment acts including rap battles, a singing competition, drama, choreography, poetry recitals, dance competitions among others, by participating schools.

Penfield school which took part in the drama and dance, emerged the overall winners, while Accra High came second with rap and dance.

 Awards

Awards were presented to schools that excelled in various fields; The Esprit de Corps award was won by Penfield school, Best fund-raising school was won by Jack and Jill school, Most Interact sponsored club was Rotary Club of Accra Dzorwolu and the Chairman's honorary award went to St Thomas Aquinas High School.

 Anniversary project

Mr Johnson Dwaben said the theme for the celebration; ‘Interact Connects Their Community Through Sanitation’, was aimed at bringing sanitation to the doorstep of all Interact schools.

He explained that as part of the celebration, all Interact schools would be provided with branded dustbins to help dispose off waste properly in order to promote a clean and healthy environment.
