The hardest hit was the Bolgatanga Technical Institute (BOTECH) that had the entire roof of its Motor Vehicle Technology Workshop severely damaged, putting equipment at the mercy of the weather.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic, the Head of Department of the Auto Mechanic Department, Mr Nsoh Gilbert, said the incident was likely to affect final year students preparing for their practical examinations.

He said the students were due to do their practicals in the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examinations (WASSCE) today.

He said if remedial measures were not taken, the students risk missing their practical examinations as any possible rains could disturb the examinations and called for support to reroof the workshop.

Currently, he said, the students were having their practical studies under a tree, which is not the best as it might affect them in the long run.

When contacted, the Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga, Mr Philip Adongo Aboore, said together with a team from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), they had been there to assess the situation.

He gave the assurance that he would communicate to the school as soon as the final assessment was done.

Mr Aboore said they had also visited the Akantome Junior High School, which had the roof of its six-unit classroom block ripped off.

"We also visited the Zaare community where the roof of a drinking bar got ripped off as well as three rooms of a private residence. I also learnt some low tension poles in the Nyariga community were pulled down and the Volta River Authority (VRA) officials had gone to work on them."
