The MEA, which was launched last year, rewards health professionals for the critical roles they play in medical service delivery in the country.

The award categories are mortuary attendants, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, midwives, cleaners, diagnostic sciences and auxiliary staff.

The awards were set up by a group of medical practitioners and professionals in other sectors to reward and appreciate the works of healthcare professionals every year as a way of encouraging them to give their best.

A team from the MEA last Wednesday called on the Managing Director of the Graphic Communications Group Limited (GCGL), Mr Kenneth Ashigbey, at the head office of the company in Accra.

Purpose of visit

The purpose of the visit was for the team to officially invite Mr Ashigbey to attend the programme and seek for media mileage before and during the awards night.

It was also meant to find common grounds where the GCGL could support and sponsor some activities of the MEA before the final day.

The MEA team included the Group President, Dr Dauda Titus Amidu; the Chairman of MEA, Mr Andy Asamoah, and the Deputy Finance Chairman, Mr Chris Omari.

Criteria

Explaining the criteria for the selection process, Dr Amidu said a team had been set up by the professional healthcare bodies to assess the performances of health professionals nationwide, including the rural areas.

He indicated that the criteria for selection ranged from professional competence, at least five years post- qualification experience, interpersonal relations with patients and staff, morals and ethics, vocation and dedication to work, attitude to work and alertness to duty.

“A strong team has been put together and will ensure that only deserving personnel are rewarded. We’ll be focusing on both the rural and urban areas to ensure that none is left out,” he stated.

Good initiative

Mr Ashigbey lauded the initiative, and said it would go a long way to encourage health practitioners to give their best.

“It is critical to reward health professionals, hence this initiative is a good one and needs to be lauded,” he said.

He also pledged that the company would offer the needed assistance and support in terms of coverage of its programmes before and during the day of the event.
