An American citizen (name withheld), who had previously visited Guinea and Sierra Leone - two countries severely affected by the disease - arrived in Ghana with a fever on Sunday and was admitted at the Nyaho Clinic in Accra.

Fearing that the man had contracted Ebola, the Ghana Health Service sent samples to Nugochi for tests to be carried out.

But Nugochi's tests on Monday proved negative, according to sources.

The American and medical personnel at Nyaho clinic were quarantined till the tests were completed.

The Ghana Health Service and the Ministry of Health are expected to provide more information on the development at a press conference today.
