Participating in the funeral of the Omanhene, Nana Kwaku Dwumah Ankoana II, 64, at Seikwa in the Tain District of the Brong Ahafo Region, the President said those who killed the Omanhene could only ran but not hide.

Nana Ankoana, who reigned for 25 years, was shot and killed by unknown assassins, while he was relaxing in his private house at about 7p.m. on November 4, 2013.

Also a renowned road contractor in Sunyani, Nana Ankoana established the Soapem Construction Limited.

Arrest

Four people have since been arrested in connection with the murder, while the Brong Regional Security Council has maintained a strong presence of security personnel in the town to prevent any devastating occurrence.

When he arrived at the funeral grounds, the President, accompanied by the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Eric Opoku, went round to greet the large assembly of chiefs.

Tradition

There was a display of tradition and culture at the funeral, as many mourners and sympathisers danced to the throbbing of fontonfrom, kete and adowa beats.

There was also firing of muskets to signify the demise of a traditional ruler.

Addressing the gathering, President Mahama described the circumstances surrounding the death of the Omanhene as unfortunate.

"We will investigate and ensure that those who committed the crime are brought to justice," he said.

Mr Mahama mentioned a similar crime that happened at Bimbilla not long ago and asked, " what have the chiefs done to deserve such criminal acts?"

The President recalled that not long before his assassination, Nana Ankoana visited him in Accra and appealed for the speedy completion of work on the Berekum-Seikwa road.

Mr Mahama gave an assurance that he had directed the release of funds to the contractor for him to complete the project.

The President donated GH¢10,000 and assorted drinks, while Mr Asiedu Nketia, General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who hails from the area, presented GH¢5,000 and a bull to the bereaved family.
