Sierra Leone’s President Bio in Ghana for President-elect Mahama’s inauguration
Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio, departed Freetown for Accra to attend the inauguration of Ghana’s President-Elect, John Dramani Mahama.
The ceremony, scheduled for Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the iconic Black Star Square in Accra, marks a significant milestone in Ghana’s democratic journey and highlights the country’s unwavering commitment to peaceful political transitions.
President Bio’s attendance underscores Sierra Leone’s solidarity with Ghana and reaffirms his country’s commitment to fostering close ties with Ghana to promote peace, prosperity, and unity across the West African region and beyond.
High-profile event
The inauguration is set to draw an impressive array of dignitaries from around the world, including Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Kenyan President William Ruto, and delegations from the European Union, the United States, and the United Kingdom.
Other notable attendees include two vice presidents, a speaker of parliament, two former presidents, and representatives from international organisations such as the Commonwealth and the African Development Bank (AfDB).

The inauguration ceremony will commence promptly at 8:30am, with guests, Members of Parliament, and other dignitaries taking their seats.
At 11am, the Speaker of Parliament will escort President-Elect Mahama and Vice President-Elect Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang to the Chamber for the official swearing-in ceremony.
