The maiden event, dubbed: ‘SHARE’, an acronym for Soaring Higher, Achieving Real Excellence, brought together young females from the various media houses in Accra and was organised as part of activities marking this year’s International Women’s Day, which was observed on March 8.

It was an educative and informative event that offered the participants the opportunity to share their experiences, discuss the challenges they faced as women in the media and how to overcome those obstacles.

SHARE conference

In an interview with the media at the end of the conference, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Stratcomm Africa, Ms Esther Amba Numaba Cobbah, said the conference was organised for women in the media because she believed the information would be communicated to a larger audience and also used to educate other individuals.

According to her, although women could do exceedingly well, some factors affected them emotionally and psychologically, hence the need for women to motivate one another to enable them to manage their careers and homes effectively.

She advised women to avoid unhealthy competition and be focused in life, stressing, “Designing the environment you find yourself in will enable you to shine.”

Ms Cobbah explained that Stratcomm was a communications industry which had a natural relationship with women in the media.

During an interactive session, the General Manager of Stratcomm Africa, Ms Gillian Baaba Heathcote, noted that young women had a lot of potential that could be harnessed for the benefit of society.

She explained that Stratcomm was committed to developing individuals with potential, adding that the SHARE initiative provided the opportunity to encourage young professionals to develop their skills.

Gender equity

A broadcast journalist at Metropolitan Television (Metro TV), Naa Kwaley Oteng- Boadu, during her presentation, advised women to be united to enable them to achieve their goals.

She also called for a sustained advocacy programme on gender equity and advised women to be united to enable them to be at the forefront of affairs.

She said confidence and optimism were factors that enabled individuals to overcome obstacles, adding, “If you fail, don’t be intimidated; try again, never give up.”
