He said in the current global socio-economic, political, scientific and technological advancement, it was only education that could keep nations abreast of the times.

Mr Aidoo was addressing the Grand Finale of the second phase of the Sefwi Inter-Schools Quiz Competition at Bibiani.

He said he led a team of education think-tanks to initiate the Sefwi Inter-Schools Quiz Competition in December, 2014, to promote effective education within the Sefwi area.

He said the first phase of the competition involved five selected basic schools from Awaso- Asempanaye and Atronsu in Zone A of the Sefwi Bibiani-Ahwiaso-Bekwai District Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES).

Mr Aidoo hinted that through the programme, some pupils had gained scholarships to attend second cycle schools in various parts of the country

He, therefore, appealed to individuals, the district assembly, GES, banks, mining companies and other corporate institutions in the area to support the efforts of the board to improve education in the Sefwi area and Ghana as a whole.

“It takes one person to come out with an idea, and it is well supported by the public,” he said.

The Chairman of the Board, Rev. Father Joseph Obiri Yeboah, said it was important for all stakeholders to embrace and own this strategic programme in order to help students in the Sefwi Area to realise their talents and become responsible citizens for the future growth and development of Sefwi and Ghana as a whole.

The chairman commended other members of the board, namely Messrs James Annor Baffour, Charles Nkrumah, Alex Kusi Mensah, Alfred Kann, and William Boateng, Vice Chairman, Secretary, Organiser, Assistant Organiser and   Treasurer respectively, for their dedication and commitment towards a noble cause, and urged them to keep up the spirit for the good of humanity.

In a key-note address, Miss Josephine Gyan, a tutor at the Wiawso College of Education, urged all stakeholders in the country’s education sector to play their roles effectively, to improve teaching and learning and develop the requisite human resource capacity needed for national growth and transformation.

“Parents, the government, teachers, society and the students themselves have equal roles to play in ensuring effective teaching and learning in our schools- to transform individuals and our Ghanaian society at large,” she said.

In the competition itself, Anglo-Gold Bibiani Limited Junior High School (AGBL JHS) bagged 116 points as against 80 by Sefwi Bekwai SDA JHS, to emerge winners of the contest.

Miss Rosemond Selasi Bissah, a Form 3 pupil of AGBL JHS, was adjudged the overall best, while Mr David Harrison Mensah, Headmaster of Sefwi Bekwasi SDA JHS, emerged the overall Best Team Leader.

All 12 schools, which participated in the competition, received certificates and prizes, while the first three schools took home sets of computers, printers and textbooks as their prizes.

The function was chaired by the District Chief Executive for Juabeso, Mr Kingsley Asoa-Appiah.
