Taxi drivers before court for robbing passengers

Two taxi drivers who are alleged to have robbed some of their passengers are waiting for the court to determine their fate.

The two — Agbanyo Dodzie, 30, and Victor Sablah, 31 — are said to drive around town, attack their passengers with a knife and rob them of their belongings.

In their operation, The police said the modus operandi of the two-man gang was for Sablah to drive the taxi, a KIA Spectra, with registration number GW 6243 -13, while Dodzie hid in the boot.

 

Victim report to police 

Briefing journalists, the Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Christian Tettey Yohuno, said one of the victims reported to the police that she had been robbed by the suspects about 11:30 p.m. on August 26, 2014.

He said the victim, who is a waitress, told the police that she had boarded the taxi at Osu after closing late from work to her residence at Teshie in Accra.

“On reaching a quiet place at Teshie, the taxi stopped and Dodzie emerged from the boot with a knife and asked the victim to give them all her valuables.

The suspects were said to have taken two mobile phones, GHc205 and the victim’s purse containing some personal items and complimentary cards.

After robbing her, the victim was abandoned to her fate.

The suspects, he said, were arrested through police intelligence.

 

Remanded 

He said the two had since been put before the Accra Circuit Court and remanded into police custody to reappear on September 18, 2014.

Mr Yohuno advised the public to be cautious when they hired the services of taxi drivers.

“People must be cautious when they hire the services of taxi drivers, especially during odd hours. Passengers must inspect the boot and the back seats of the taxis the boarded,” he said.
