Three arrested for attacking Korean woman

Three persons who allegedly attacked a Korean woman at Dzorwulu in Accra and stole her vehicle and handbag containing sums in different currencies and other valuables have been arrested.

The suspects are Emmanuel Debrah, alias Otega, 28, taxi driver, John Tetteh, 28, driver, and Richard Martey, 20, unemployed.

One accomplice, identified as Richmond Asiamah, a clearing agent, who is suspected to have bought her mobile phone, has also been arrested.

According to the police, the handbag contained the victim’s international driver’s licence, passport, sum of $5,600, an unspecified amount of Korean currency (Won), GH¢200 and a Samsung galaxy note 4 phone

Attack

The Accra Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Christian Tetteh Yohuno, said Tetteh, Debrah and Martey boarded a taxi and trailed the victim, who had closed from work from the Kotoka International Airport, to her residence at Dzorwulu at 11:00p.m. on February 2, 2015.

Immediately the victim got to the entrance of her house, he said, Tetteh, Debrah and Martey attacked her with machetes, pushed her to the ground and made away with her Kia Rio vehicle and handbag.

Mr Yohuno said the suspects later abandoned the vehicle at Accra New Town, which was later found by a police patrol team.

Arrest

Further investigations, according to the police, showed that Debrah hired the taxi which was used to trail the victim.

Through intelligence network, Mr Yohuno said, Asiamah was traced and arrested.

He said Asiamah admitted to the offence and claimed that he bought the phone at  GH¢1,700. He later led the police to the hideouts of the attackers, who were arrested.

Mr Yohuno added that Tetteh revealed that he used part of his money to purchase an Opel Astra taxi.

He said two machetes, a mobile phone and Won 10,000 (Korean currency) were retrieved from the suspects.
