TMA takes steps to deal with haulage trucks parked indiscriminately
In a bid to curb the growing menace of reckless parking of vehicles, especially heavy duty trucks in the Tema Metropolis, the Metropolitan Assembly in partnership with the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) and Tema Development Corporation (TDC) are working to develop a permanent terminal for haulage trucks.

The trucks are mostly parked on the shoulders of the roads near the Tema Port enclave and adjourning communities in the metropolis.
Aside the danger posed to other road users and damage cause to the road, the illegal parking places also served as hot spots for anti-social activities by the truck drivers and their mates.
Addressing the first ordinary session of the seventh Assembly of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly, the Metropolitan Chief Executive, Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten said his outfit was negotiating with the TDC on a land close to the Tema Labour Office and also at Community Three to developed into a terminal for the trucks.
He said the TMA was also working with adjourning Assemblies like the Ashaiman Municipal and Kpone Katamanso District to develop a permanent terminal for the haulage trucks.
The influx of haulage trucks and its haphazard parking situation, many at times on both sides of the road has led to congestion especially in the Meridian enclave making it difficult for other road users to have access.
Mr Odamtten noted that equally worrying was the wanton plying of roads within the various communities by heavy duty trucks which causes more damage to the road..
"The Metropolitan Assembly in its deliberations agreed that there was the need for a common developmental plan for the Metropolis due to the overlapping mandates of TMA,TDC and GPHA to help address some of the challenges bordering on the development of Tema," he said.
