Total eclipse of moon sighted yesterday

Ghana experienced total eclipse of the moon between 12:11 a.m. and 5:22 a.m. on Monday.
The total lunar eclipse, which is sometimes called a blood moon (since the moon turns red), was fully visible in Accra.

The phenomenon was experienced in many other countries across the globe.

The moon
The moon does not have its own light but shines because its surface reflects the sun's rays. During a total lunar eclipse, the sun, the earth and the moon form a straight line and the earth blocks any direct sunlight from reaching the moon. Meanwhile, the sun is behind the earth and so the sun's light casts the earth's shadow on the moon. This shadow covers the entire moon and causes a total lunar eclipse.

The September 28, 2015 total lunar eclipse was the last total eclipse of the moon in the 2014-2015 tetrads.
The first three occurred on April 15, 2014, October 8, 2014 and April 4, 2015.

Observation
Some residents of Accra told the Daily Graphic that they witnessed the unusual spectacle of the total lunar eclipse and described what they saw as spectacular and interesting to behold.
