Bishop Daniel Obinim

Traditional priest chickens out of contest with Obinim in Kumasi

Hundreds of people left the Jubilee Park in Kumasi disappointed yesterday after the much-trumpeted ‘who is who’ contest between the Founder and Leader of Godsway International Church, Bishop Daniel Obinim, and Komfo Nana Yaw Appiah, a traditional priest, could not take place.

It was the second time the two had failed to cross each other’s path after the traditional priest had openly declared on radio to be the source of Obinim’s powers.

The first meeting, which had been scheduled for the studios of Happy FM in Accra, was botched after Obinim failed to show up.

Showdown

Apparently angered by the traditional priest’s persistent allegation that he was the source of Obinim’s powers, and as a way of redeeming his image, the bishop stormed the park around 9 a.m. yesterday in the company of his associate pastors and some church members for the showdown.

Dressed in an all-white apparel, with a cap to match and followed to the park with a white coffin, Obinim shook the grounds, acknowledging cheers from hundreds of his Kumasi admirers, most of whom had abandoned their work just to witness the ‘contest’.

Rules

Per the rules of the ‘contest’, Obinim and Nana Appiah were to lie in the coffin for 30 minutes, in addition to other rituals that would be performed, to determine the one who would survive and who was superior.

Obinim told the crowd that he was daring the priest to show up in the coming days or he would be compelled to storm his (priest’s) residence to prove a point.

But in a radio interview later, Komfo Nana Appiah said he was prevented by the police from showing up at the grounds because the contest could be ‘bloody’.

He told Metro FM: “I am not afraid of Obinim and I am ready to face him anytime and expose him.”
