Two arrested for carrying huge parcels of suspected cannabis

The Narcotic Division of the Ashanti Regional Police command has arrested two suspects including a 54-year-old fishmonger in possession of four large suitcases and a number of compressed quantities of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The substance were concealed in four Ecolac suitcases, 23 parcels in a fertilizer sack, two baskets containing 57 parcels, and a lady’s hand bag containing five parcels of the dried leaves.

The 54-year-old fishmonger, Adwoa Serwaa, and her 21-year-old accomplice farmer, Mamudu Yussif, from Nsokor and Badu in the Brong Ahafo Region respectively were arrested last Saturday while aboard a Metro Bus from Techiman to Takoradi.

The Head of the Law Enforcement Unit of the Ashanti Police Command, ASP Charles Appiah, told Daily that while on transit in Kumasi, the management of the Metro Bus Transit Limited on a tip off tracked the two member-team at Abrepo Junction and quickly alerted the police for their arrest.

A third suspects, who was said to be lurking around the transit point literally vanished into thin air on seeing the police and he has subsequently been declared wanted.

ASP Appiah commended the management of the Metro Mass Transit Limited for the support, and urged all to assist the police in providing security to the citizenry.

He said the unit was on the alert in ensuring that all drug peddlers were arrested and faced the full rigors of the law.

The suspects would soon be arraigned before the law court.
