Two charged for fighting over electricity bill

Two persons, who engaged in a fight over electricity bills, resulting in body injuries, have been put before an Accra Circuit Court, each charged with causing harm.

Beatrice Abbey a 26-year old receptionist and Victor Coffie a 32- year old site engineer have pleaded not guilty

The court presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku admitted them to bail in the sum of GH¢8,000 each with a surety each to reappear on May 8.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire said Beatrice is a tenant to Grace Sarpong,an aunty to Coffie.

On February 19, this year at about 2000 hours, Coffie visited his aunty at a place known as Methodist at Nungua and chanced on his aunty and Beatrice arguing over electricity bill.

Coffie confronted Beatrice but unknown to Coffie, Beatrice who was armed with an empty Coca-Cola bottle, used same to hit Coffie’s forehead and the bottle got broken.

The Prosecution said Coffie on seeing blood oozing from the cut rushed on Beatrice in an attempt to collect the bottle from her.

According to prosecution, Beatrice run into her room and Coffie followed her and succeeded in collecting the broken bottle.

Coffie then used the broken bottle to cut Beatrice’s wrist where she bled profusely.

Prosecution said Beatrice and Coffie rushed to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit of the Ghana Police Service to lodge a complaint.

The two accused were issued with a Police Medical Report Form to seek medical attention, they were subsequently charged.
