The rest are the Graphic Communications Group Limited, the Despite Group of Companies, the Nsawam Prison and the three designated hospitals for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

President’s request

Presenting the items at the MoH, the Executive Chairman of Kinapharma Limited, Mr Kofi Nsiah-Poku, said the gesture was to aid in the fight against the COVID-19.

He explained that the hand sanitisers were the first batch produced by Kinapharma in response to the call by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to pharmaceutical companies in Ghana to produce alcohol-based sanitisers to meet the demand in the country.

He said on a daily basis the company would produce 2,000 gallons to stock the market, so that supply would reach all the 16 regions of Ghana.

“We decided to donate 200 gallons of our first batch of production to the National COVID-19 Response Team to support the authorities in the fight to end the spread of the COVID-19,” he said.

MOH

A Deputy Minister of Health, Mr Alexander K. Abban, who received the sanitisers on behalf of the ministry, thanked the company for its proactiveness in producing hand sanitisers to help in the containment of the virus.

He commended all other pharmaceutical companies which had risen to the occasion and produced hand sanitisers to help in the season.

Mr Abban advised pharmaceutical companies to produce more things internally, adding that they should regulate the sale of hand sanitisers in pharmacies, so that the price would be affordable to all.

Virtual Securities Africa

Making the presentation to the GHS, the Head of Sales and Marketing at Virtual Securities Africa, Ms Yvonne Nimoh, said the company saw the need to join hands in the fight against the virus by supporting frontline health workers with the needed logistics in order to enable them to work effectively.

She added that the use of hand sanitisers was very crucial for health workers, for which reason the company would contribute its quota to support the health sector.

“We hope that many other corporate bodies will realise the need to support the health sector in times like these,” she added.

GHS

The acting Director-General of the GHS, Dr Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, commended the company for its benevolent gesture, adding: “This is a virus that is transmitted by contact and so the sanitiser will go a long way to protect our health officers who are at the forefront of the fight, both those going on the field and those in the hospitals, against the COVID-19.”

He urged Ghanaians to abide by the physical distancing protocols and the application of hand sanitisers, while abiding by the restrictions on movement, in order to avoid the further spread of the virus.

Dr Kuma-Aboagye called on Corporate Ghana to emulate such gestures in order to support the fight against the COVID-19 as far as healthcare delivery was concerned.
