Two men have been sentenced to a total of 30 years in prison with hard labour for conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.
The convicts, Nicholas Tetteh and Joseph Tetteh, received 15 years’ imprisonment each from the Gbetsile Circuit Court, presided over by Eleanor Kakra Barns Botchway, after they pleaded guilty to the charge of robbery.
A police statement signed by ASP Dede Dzakpasu, Head of Public Affairs for the Tema Police Command, said the police secured a conviction for the two individuals involved in a robbery and rape incident that occurred on September 27, 2025, at Okushibli, along the Apollonia–Afienya road.
According to the statement, the two convicts sexually assaulted a 19-year-old hairdresser after dragging her into a bush and robbing her of an iPhone XR and a handbag containing GH¢150.
The statement explained that the victim had hired a motor rider, Nicholas Tetteh, to take her to Afienya. However, on the way, Tetteh conspired with two others, including Joseph Tetteh, to attack the victim.
Arrest
The statement added that the case was reported to the Zenu-Atadeka District Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU), leading to the arrest and charging of the suspects with robbery and rape.
Following an intelligence-led operation, the two were arrested, arraigned, and subsequently convicted after pleading guilty to the robbery charge before the Gbetsile Circuit Court.
The police further indicated that the convicts would be arraigned for the rape charge once advice is received from the Attorney-General’s Office, which is currently studying the docket.
ASP Dzakpasu assured the public of continued efforts to ensure justice for the victim and maintain public safety. She said the police action underscores their commitment to addressing serious crimes in the Tema Region.
