The two who were injured are Mr Alhassan Salisu, 35, and his wife, Hawa.

While Salisu was shot in the right thigh, Hawa’s left arm was shot.

Briefing the Daily Graphic on telephone, the Bawku Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent, Mr Lovelace Tesutor, said the bodies of the deceased had been released to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic tradition, after postmortem at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital.

Salisu, who is in critical condition, has been transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), while his wife is receiving treatment at the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital.

The Bawku Divisional Commander indicated that the assailants used an AK 47 rifle to attack their victims, and that four empty shells were found at the crime scene. He also said investigations were going on but no one had been arrested.

Mr Tesutor said the attack was purely a criminal act that was not linked to any ethnic conflict and asked Bawku residents to go about their normal duties since the security agencies had taken up the issue.

He added that the Bawku Municipal Security Council had met and recommended intensification of patrols in and around Bawku by the police and military.
