The First Lady, Mrs Lordina Mahama, has advised the public to observe the utmost personal hygiene and environmental cleanliness in the wake of the outbreak of cholera in parts of the country and Ebola in some West African countries.

She also urged the public to seek accurate information on the diseases from reliable sources such as the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and public health officials, instead of relying on rumours.

Mrs Mahama gave the advice when the Lordina Foundation, her brainchild, presented medical supplies to the Jasikan Government Hospital in the Volta Region last Monday.

Other beneficiaries

She made similar donations to the Kpando, Nkwanta and Kete Krachi West District hospitals in the Volta Region at separate ceremonies.

The items included gloves, gauze and breathing circuits. Others were swabs, oral care kits, tubes, towels, stabilisers, syringes, masks and hospital beds.

So far, about 12 hospitals in the Northern, Central and Eastern regions have benefited from the Lordina Foundation’s medical supplies, aimed at supporting the activities of the health facilities.

The donations are also being made as part of the foundation's medical outreach for district and community-based health facilities to enhance healthcare.

Mrs Mahama said the donations were specifically to resource the selected health facilities and health workers to enable them to contain any outbreak of diseases in the communities.

She added that her foundation would continue to support the government as it built new hospitals, equipped and expanded existing ones to improve healthcare.

The Volta Regional Health Director, Dr Tei Nuertey, who received the items on behalf of the hospitals, thanked Mrs Mahama for her donation.
