“This year being an election year, it is instructive that political parties and all other stakeholders act on a platform of trust and play their full role in upholding the true tenets of democracy,” he said.

Speaking at the special Akwasidae festival last Sunday, he said credible election outcomes promoted the trust the public had in the governance process.

The event was attended by the chiefs and people of the New Juaben Traditional Area, political figures and a section of the public.

Daasebre Oti Boateng observed that people turned to cry foul when they did not trust the electoral process, saying it was for that reason that all actors in the elections of this year ought to play to the rules of the game.

Unity of New Juaben

He asked the residents of the New Juaben Traditional Area to live at peace with one another since it was only through unity that they could promote development.

“To ensure peace and development, I have created a new stool named Nkabom or Unity Stool with the objective of achieving development in unity for the chiefs and people of New Juaben,” he added.

He said he had nominated Dr Michael Agyekum Addo to be the “Nkabomhene” or Unity Chief. He was installed last Monday.

Daasebre Oti Boateng said the “Nkabomhene would, among other things, be expected to harness the development potential of the area with the rich experience he had acquired in business over the years.

He said Akwasidae was a well-prized event not only to remind them of their history and relationship with their ancestors, but also served as a platform to renew their commitment to forge unity for development.

Laurels

He also used the occasion to announce that he had been re-elected by the United Nations (UN) General Assembly for another four-year term to serve as Commissioner on the International Civil Service Commission, representing Africa South of the Sahara.

He again told the gathering that he had been honoured with an honorary doctorate degree of Law by the University of New York, a feat he said was in recognition of his achievements as a traditional leader, educator, and scholar.
