The conference, being held in the city of Sendai from March 14 to 18, is expected to adopt guidelines on bolstering counter-measures to climate-related disasters, which are worsening in some parts of the world.

A statement signed by Mr James Agyenim-Boateng, a Presidential Staffer at the Office of the Vice-President, said the guidelines were expected to stress the importance of disaster prevention measures and investment in infrastructure in developing countries so that natural calamities did not hamper economic growth.

While in Tokyo, Mr Amissah-Arthur will hold meetings with top-level officials of the government of Japan including the foreign minister and the chairperson of Japan’s Parliamentary Select Committee for Defence, Overseas Development Assistance and Foreign Affairs.

The Vice-President, who was accompanied on the trip by his wife, Mrs Matilda Amissah-Arthur, is also scheduled to hold meetings with senior executives of a number of companies in Japan.

He would use the meetings to promote Ghana as a stable democracy and safe investment destination.
