WATCH: Interior Minister-designate promises to tackle issues surrounding security services recruitment
The Minister-Designate for Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has pledged to address concerns regarding fairness in the recruitment process for Ghana’s security services by reevaluating the regional quota system.
During his vetting before the Appointments Committee of Parliament on January 24, Muntaka assured that he would work to ensure fairness and inclusivity in the recruitment process.
He voiced concerns about situations where minority groups are overlooked, resulting in opportunities benefiting only a select majority.
Muntaka highlighted the importance of creating a transparent and balanced system that truly reflects the country’s diverse population.
“I’m going to a ministry that has a lot of professionals that are experts in their fields, you can’t doubt the expertise of the Inspector General of Police, neither will you doubt the Director General of Ghana Prisons and the likes," he said.
“And I’m going to be a team member that would be working with them. Together with them we have to review. Over the last 30 years or 40 years, since we started this 4th Republic, how have we done it? Has it served the purpose? If there are lapses, we will look at it and review it in the best interest of the country," he added.
