The US$100,000 Trinity Women Resource Centre, which was inaugurated last Tuesday in Yendi, has sewing, hair dressing, batik, tie and dye rooms and a gymnasium, an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre and a three-unit classroom block.

The Home Missionary of the North Ghana Baptist Convention, Rev. Emmanuel Kwabena Mustapha, who inaugurated the centre on behalf of the North Eastern Mission Field of the  Convention, said the centre was sponsored by the Trinity Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas, USA.

Rev. Mustapha indicated that 70 girls would be trained free of charge in various skills,  while an additional 100 women would be trained in soap-making,  batik,  tie and dye, and sewing.

He stated that girls and women from the Yendi municipality, Zabzugu, Mion, Tatale/Sangule, Saboba, Chereponi and Nanumba North and South districts would also be trained at the centre.

He noted that 1,000 women and girls were expected to be trained in various skills, including accounting and ICT within the next two years.

According to him,  as the training progressed, young girls who could not write the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE)  will be supported to do so to ensure that their future was not jeopardised.

Rev. Mustapha announced that the church would establish a micro-finance scheme to help women set up their own businesses after the training, and advised beneficiaries to make maximum use of the facility.

He indicated that apart from sponsoring the centre, the Trinity Baptist Church was supporting the construction of a church building at Saboba with an amount of GH¢5,600

He said they also donated 50 drums and 50 footballs to be distributed to the churches,  while quantities of dresses and 100 bibles were distributed to the vulnerable. Bales of used clothing were also presented to the alleged witches at the Ngani Witches Camp in the Yendi municipality.
