State bids farewell to Maulvi Wahab Adam

A state burial service was yesterday held for the Ameer and Missionary in-charge of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana, Maulvi Dr Abdul Wahab Adam, at the forecourt at the State House in Accra.

It was attended by dignitaries, including the Vice-President, Mr Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, ministers of state, Members of Parliament, district chief executives, as well as delegations from the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission.

Maulvi Dr Adam, who passed away at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital on June 22, 2014, was the first Ghanaian to head the Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission in Ghana.

Scores of Muslims across the Islamic religion thronged the State House to pay their last respects to the Islamic cleric whom many described as a champion of peace who dedicated his life to serving the nation in all respects.

Many could not hold back their tears as they filed pass the body as it lay in state.

 

Tributes

Various organisations paid tributes to the departed cleric. They comprised some that Maulvi Dr Adam was a member of, or was associated with.

The Minister of Information and Media Relations, Mr Mahama Ayariga, delivered a tribute on behalf of the government. He said Maulvi Adam would forever be remembered for his passion for peace.

A tribute from the Special Representative of the Worldwide Head of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hadzrat Mirza Masroor Ahmed Kahalifatul Masin V, was read.

The Ghana Catholic Bishops’ Conference, members of the National Reconciliation Commission, the National Peace Council, the Christian Council of Ghana and the Charismatic and Pentecostal Council, paid tributes to the deceased.

 

Sermon

Maulvi Fareed Ahmad Naveed, a member of the Worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Mission, in a brief sermon, implored all Muslims to live by the ideals of Allah, stressing that “our existence on earth is only temporary.”

He expressed condolences to the bereaved family and said he was hopeful that Allah would comfort them.

Later, Muslim burial prayer (Janaza) was said after which the casket containing the mortal remains of Maulvi Dr Adam was conveyed to the Ahmadiyya burial grounds at Kasoa in the Central Region, for interment.
