Work starts on court, fire station for Ellembelle

The Minister of Energy and Petroleum, Mr Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has performed a sod-cutting ceremony at Nkroful in the Ellembelle District in the Western Region for the commencement of work on a GHc260, 000 new district magistrate court.

Work has also started on a new fire station in the town for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) at GHc230, 000, which the minister, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ellembelle, inspected after the sod-cutting ceremony.

The two projects are strategic, for with the establishment of the Ghana Gas Project at Atuabo, there is the urgent need for a fire station to act swiftly against any fire outbreak.

According to the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ellembelle, Mr Daniel Kermabentu Eshun, the court project was in line with the President’s vision of good governance and the rule of law as well as for the adjudication of justice.

Composition & funding

The fire service project consists of two appliance bays for fire tenders, two huge common offices, four single offices, a reception, waiting area and wash rooms while the court has a hall, magistrate’s chamber, registrar’s office, general offices as well as an office for the HFC Bank and other ancillary facilities.

The two projects are being financed through the district development facility (DDF) and the assembly has already mobilised funds for two different contractors, Joerica Company Limited and Cassak Gh Ltd, to complete them in eight months.

The DCE explained that even though the district was fairly new there was a  lot of development projects springing up, and that the two projects would add some beauty and touch to the area.

He cautioned the contractors “to not joke” with the deadline given them since the projects were dear to the heart of the assembly and the government , stressing that they should do a good quality job.

Partisan politics

The minister described the district as a progressive one because of the fast pace of development, adding that the continuous development of the area should be devoid of partisan politics.

He indicated that the government had invested over GHc1billion into the production of gas which was to augment electricity and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) supply in the country, and as such the construction of a fire service station was very timely and critical.

Another gas plant & roads

The MP also announced the establishment of an additional $6billion gas plant in the district, and gave the assurance that the proposed new port in the country was to be sited at Ellembelle while the government was seriously making efforts to fix deplorable road networks.

Mr Buah disclosed that the four-kilometre Esiama-Nkroful-Teleku-Bokazo road was to be asphalted at a cost of GHc10million, emphasising that the effective development of the district called for the collaboration of all residents.
