A Consultant obstetrician gynaecologist at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr Nelson K.R. Damale, has urged Ghanaians to undergo periodic medical check-ups to minimise preventive health issues and avoid their consequences.

He said most deaths could be avoided, if people underwent regular medical screening to know their health status.

Dr  Damale said this when he led a team of doctors and medical officers to conduct health screening for more than 100 members of the Mamprobi Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) Church in Accra on Saturday.

Members of the church were examined for hypertension, anaemia, breast lump and diabetes, among other diseases.

According to Dr Damale, the church, besides spiritual feeding, decided to organise health screening for its members twice annually.

He said members of the church who are health professionals decided to volunteer their services with support from doctors from Korle Bu and other hospitals.

He said at the end of the exercise, two persons were identified to have breast lumps  and referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for  treatment.

Dr Damale said  a number of clinics had been dedicated at Korle Bu to examine people who did not complain of any health challenges, saying “prevention is better than cure.”

A Presbyter of the Church, Mr Eddie Ashiagbor, commended members of the church for patronising the programme.
