The Greater Accra Regional Hospital last Thursday, opened its doors to the general public to showcase its capabilities across all specialities and educate them on health-related matters.
The Open Day Celebration, a day designed to strengthen community engagement, foster collaboration, and showcase the remarkable work being done at the hospital saw chiefs, schoolchildren and hospital staff in attendance.
Staff members from various departments including Pharmaceutical service, dietetics centre, radiological service, dialysis centre exhibited their equipment and educated the public on procedures at the hospital.
Corporate institutions including Pharmanova Pharmaceuticals, Accra Medical Center, Top Up Pharmacy, Hills Pharmaceuticals, African Delight, Twellum Industrial Company, Unilever, and Floke Pharmaceuticals, Abi's Food Lab were also on board to support the initiative.
The Open Day was on the theme, “Promoting healthy living through partnership and quality care”.
Rationale
Opening the event, the Medical Director, Dr Leslie Issa Adam-Zakariah, expressed profound pride in leading an institution that continues to champion quality healthcare, innovation, partnership, and compassion.
He also raised concern about the hospital's consistently high bed occupancy rate of over 95 per cent in the face of staffing shortages.
Dr Adam-Zakariah made an appeal to government, corporate bodies, philanthropists, and all well-meaning citizens to support the hospital in areas such as staff housing, the completion of the Phase Il project, and retooling of the facility.
The Medical Director said the hospital’s key innovations included the Central Emergency Concept and Functional Bed Utilisation System and the hosting the Greater Accra WhatsApp referral platform; and a Feto-Maternal Unit, among other prestige services as some of the strides made by the public
Management
The Regional Director for Budget, Bless Kwame Dzake who represented the Regional Minister, commended the hospital's management and staff for creating this important platform to showcase the progress being made in improving healthcare delivery across the region.
He emphasised the critical role of collaboration in building a resilient and people-centred health system.
He further applauded the hospital for its leadership in tertiary healthcare, emergency response, and specialized services.
The Adabraka Mantse, Nii Tetteh Adjabeng II, who chaired the event lauded the hospital for taking steps to educate the public on the wide range of services it offers.
He encouraged management and staff to continue working as a unified team and to sustain the excellent work being done.
