The beneficiaries, with one group under 18 years and the other 70 and above, were drawn from the Birim North and Birim South districts as well as Birim Central Municipality. Those whose NHIS cards had expired also had them renewed.

The CEO also organised free health screening for 600 people found to be suffering from various ailments such as malaria, hypertension, diabetes and skin diseases and attended to.

In addition, Mr Opoku provided free meals, soft drinks and water for both the beneficiaries of the NHIS registration and the health screening exercise.

Speaking to journalists during the exercises last weekend, Mr Opoku said the gesture formed part of the hospital’s social responsibility in the catchment area.

He promised not to only make the exercises a regular feature but also increase the number of beneficiaries in the years ahead.

Mr Opoku said he was more concerned about the health of the people in the area, hence the gesture.

The Krontihene of Akyem Kotoku Traditional Area, Obrempong Gyamfi Saforo Kyereh, who was present at the ceremony, praised Mr Opoku for the kind gesture and urged well-to-do individuals and organisations in the area to emulate the example of Mr Opoku.
