Abu Sakara will not survive political terrain as independent candidate - CPP
The Convention Peoples Party (CPP) has said that its former presidential candidate, Dr Abu Sakara will not survive the political terrain as an independent candidate.

Dr Sakara has announced that he was parting ways with the CPP and would want to contest this year’s Presidential Elections as an independent candidate.
Dr Sakara first came to limelight in 2008 when he was nominated as running mate by Dr Paa Kwesi Nduom, who contested as presidential candidate on the ticket of the CPP.
In 2012 he won the bid to contest the general elections as presidential candidate for the CPP.
The CPP opened nominations for interested candidates to pick forms last week. Former chairperson, Samia Yaba Nkrumah who is seen as a front runner has since picked forms.
Some political analysts have argued that Abu Sakara’s move was a defeatist one.
Responding to the development, the CPP on Wednesday said Dr Sakara will not survive the political terrain as an independent candidate because his political clout was a result of his association with the CPP.
The General Secretary of the CPP, Nii Armah Akomfra told Accra based radio station, Citi FM that Dr Sakara’s decision was shocking and that he was not likely to make any major in-roads should he go ahead with his intentions.

“It is breaking news for us as it is for everybody else, it is surprising news and we are baffled as to why he would want to pursue that line. The path of independent candidate historically is not a good one …it is going to be a very difficult path for him, as a comrade we would want him to pursue his career within the CPP, but nominations are still open we would want to hear what formally he has for us, a press release is not the way to communicate to your party.”
Nii Akomfra said the party would appeal to Dr Sakara to rethink his decision and said the party was yet to receive any formal communication from him.

Meanwhile Dr Sakara has dismissed the argument that he will not survive as an independent candidate. He argues he has enough political experience to survive the terrain.
