Akufo-Addo eyes Kyerematen to run economy

The 2016 Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has disclosed that former flag bearer aspirant, Mr Alan Kyerematen, will be one of the persons to run the Ghanaian economy when he is elected President.

According to him, looking at Ghana’s current state where the economy is seriously challenged, it is important that people of high competence and skill are put at the helm of affairs in government to put the nation back on the right path.

Addressing separate meetings of 64 chiefs from Akatsi South and Akatsi North as part of his Volta regional tour, Nana Akufo-Addo said he was confident that a team constituted of Alan Kyerematen and other experienced persons in the NPP would help his future government improve the lives of Ghanaians.

“This year, give the NPP a chance and I have no doubt that we’ll deliver when voted into power. You heard Alan Kyerematen talk about the programmes and the future development of our country if we get the chance.

“These are the people who are going to run the economy. God willing, if we win in December, there are experienced and competent people who are going to stand and do the right job for Ghana. That is what we want. In this 21st century, we are not interested in tribal and ethnic politics; it won’t get us anywhere. This century is about knowledge, technology and innovation; we want our best,’’ he said.

Grateful to Voltarians

Meanwhile, the 2016 Presidential Candidate of the NPP has thanked the chiefs and people of the Volta Region for the exceptional welcome he has received from them since he began his four-day tour of the region.

Worshipping with congregants at the S.S. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church at Aflao yesterday at the end of his tour of the region, Nana Akufo-Addo expressed his appreciation to the region for the reception throughout the duration of the tour.

With huge numbers turning out to meet him in each of the constituencies he visited, amid the chanting of popular NPP slogans, Nana Akufo-Addo stated that: “I am very grateful to all the people I have met for the wonderful welcome they have given me and my delegation. May God bless you all.”

The tour took him to Anloga, Keta, Adidome, Ave-Dakpa, Akatsi, Klikor, Agbozume and Aflao to interact with the chiefs and people.

He told the congregation that his presence in the region was meant to “repair the relationship and close the gap between the Volta Region and the NPP”.

“They say I am an old man with one foot in the grave. But, here I am. I am ok. As for death it’s up to the Almighty. We all don’t know when we will be called. What you see before you is a small man with a big heart for Ghana,” he said.

2016 Critical year

Describing 2016 as a critical year for the country, the NPP flag bearer explained that he was offering himself for the leadership of the country, “because I believe I have something to contribute to making Ghana a much stronger and prosperous country, where there are jobs for our young people. That is why I am contesting for the leadership. I cannot succeed without your support. And, that is why I am here, to plead for the support of the Volta Region.”

With Pope Francis decreeing 2016 as “The Year of Mercy”, we pray that the Almighty will show His Mercy to Ghana, and we pray for the peace and stability of our country. That He should show mercy to the Electoral Commission, so they can conduct a free, fair and transparent election. If it is free and fair, the results can easily be accepted by everybody, so that there will be peace in our country.”
