Akufo Addo’s 94.35 per cent is not normal – Ohene Ntow (audio)

Nana Ohene Ntow, who managed the Campaign of Mr Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has described Nana Akufo Addo’s 94.35 per cent win at the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primary as not normal.

Out of a total valid votes of 124,449, Alan Kyerematen got 5,908 votes which represented 4.75 per cent, Francis Addai Nimoh got 1,198 representing 0.91 per cent and Nana Addo got 117, 413 representing 94.35 per cent.

But according to Ohene Ntow, it was surprising that Nana Addo was able to achieve such a landslide victory.

I am a bit surprised because in an election, it is difficult for someone to get about 90 or 100 per cent but it has happened, he said.

Ohene Ntow who was commenting on Saturday’s election on Okay FM Monday morning said it would be necessary for those who were involved in the election to take their time and do a post mortem.

He added it was necessary for them to understand that it was not normal for someone to get 96 or 100 per cent for that matter but it was important that the NPP has been able to go through the process without any bad incident.

He argued that even before nominations opened for the competition, some people agitated for Alan Kyerematen to stay out of the race even though he was not the only one who was contesting Nana Addo.

This, he said, would be one of the issues the Alan camp would be looking into considering the way it happened and the outcome of the results.

"In general, it was not common all over the world for someone to achieve such a percentage in an election but we would be analysing the elections," he said.

In the last NPP presidential primaries in 2010 Nana Akufo Addo won with 83,517 votes that represented 78.89 per cent while Alan Kyerematen got 21,226 votes which represented 19.91 per cent.

In that contest, there were five contestants - Isaac Osei with 1,194 votes representing 1.12 per cent, Professor Kwabena Frimpong Boateng with 428 votes representing 0.40 per cent and Mr John Kwame Kodua with 225 votes representing 0.21 per cent.
