NPP can do much better for Ghana than NDC – Akufo Addo (audio)

After last Saturday's sweet victory in the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primary, Nana Akufo-Addo says he feels strongly that his party can do much better than "the people who are currently in charge of Ghana’s leadership".

“We are definitely going to do that because I feel we can do much better than the people who are in charge of our country right now. To give our country good government and economic progress and lift up the living standards of our people, we can do much better.”

An elated Nana Addo said in a radio interview on Peace FM Monday morning.

He said he was challenged by the great confidence reposed in him by the party delegates and would do everything humanly possible to bring the New Patriotic Party back to power.

"NPP members have honoured me greatly and I want to assure them that I will not let them down."

Nana Addo maintained that when he was going round for his campaign, it was clear to him he was going to win it again but the “size of the victory is beyond my wildest expectations, truthfully.”

He maintained it was a signal that the party wants power in 2016 and members believe he was the one to lead and bring that power.

"When you go through the party from the rank and file, the enthusiasm for victory in 2016 is scary and I think what they are saying by this votes, almost unanimously is that, we are determined to win and you are the man we want to lead us to give us victory."

Asked about how he was going to unify all factions, Nana Addo said Mr Alan Kyerematen on Saturday captured the philosophy of the party very well that, “we compete and at the end of the competition, we cooperate. That has been the tradition of our party and it is the tradition I intend to follow and make real.”

“If everybody, myself included, we keep that principle alive, we can put our party together. The party is already fully fully together behind me and we can then strengthen and go forward.”

Asked if the 2016 elections would be easier for him, Nana Addo responded, “there is never an election which is easy. You know the circumstances of the country and the time. That is what will determine whether it would be easy or not but we are going to give it our best shot.”

The three-time flagbearer of the NPP said it was necessary to do whatever they ought to do to bring victory. “We will not be doing it for ourselves but for Ghanaians in general.”

Asked about the new things he would be bringing on board different from the 2008 and 2012 elections which he contested, he said “history will tell us.”
