EC is ready for Tuesday's Akwatia by-election - Director of Electoral Services

The Electoral Commission (EC) says all was set for Tuesday's by-election in the Akwatia constituency of the Eastern Region.

According to the Director of Electoral Services at the EC, Benjamin Bannor-Bio, all the Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs) and other essential equipment for the exercise were ready.

He added that all election materials have been sent to all 111 polling stations.

“The only new thing is that this time, resources will be sent first to a police station before reaching a dedicated voter. That is very formidable, and we are going to continue with this,” Mr Bannor-Bio explained.

Security has also been a central concern ahead of the poll. Mr Bannor-Bio said the EC had received assurances from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and his team.

“They provided a lot of strategies to ensure effective security, and we can all see that they have started implementing them. We hope and pray it continues this way so that the people of Akwatia can exercise their rights peacefully,” he said.
