Akwatia By-Election: NPP’s Kojo Bamba calls for calm and unity
An aspirant for the National First Vice-Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kojo Bamba, has appealed to stakeholders and supporters in the Akwatia Constituency to ensure a peaceful by-election on Tuesday.
He emphasised that the exercise must be conducted in an atmosphere of calm to enable constituents to elect a new representative following the passing of the Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
Speaking during a tour of the constituency to campaign for the NPP’s parliamentary candidate, Solomon Asumadu, Mr Bamba said democracy flourishes only when anchored in peace.
“The election should be devoid of violence to safeguard its sanctity. Democracy thrives only in an atmosphere of peace,” he stated.
The by-election has been scheduled by the Electoral Commission (EC) for September 2, 2025, and is a straight contest between Mr Asumadu and Bernard Baidoo of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Mr Bamba urged voters not to be intimidated but to turn out in their numbers to exercise their civic duty. He expressed confidence in a decisive victory for the NPP candidate and encouraged constituents to keep faith with the party.
He further reminded residents of Akwatia that every vote counts, adding that unity and peace before, during, and after the polls would be vital to protecting the credibility of the electoral process.
