Bagbin urges MPs to embrace responsibility in building Ghana’s future
Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin has underscored the critical role of political leadership in national development.
He said the success or failure of a nation’s development hinges on the intelligence, creativity, skill, and commitment of its political leaders.
Mr Bagbin therefore called for a leadership that has the capacity to garner support, instill confidence, and drive the nation forward.
He made the call during the swearing-in ceremony of new Members of Parliament (MPs) on January 7.
“Society develops or fails to develop depending on the extent to which its political leadership is intelligent, creative, skillful, committed, and has the capacity to enlist support,” said Mr Bagbin, reminding the MPs of their significant role in shaping the country's future.
The Speaker urged the newly sworn-in MPs to set aside political differences and focus on the collective goal of advancing Ghana’s development. “We have no alternative than to coalesce together to develop Ghana,” he stated, urging unity in the face of challenges.
Mr. Bagbin also acknowledged the hardships MPs had endured during their election campaigns, offering encouragement and reinforcing the importance of upholding the trust placed in them by their constituents.
“I’m aware of what you went through before you got elected to this House, and I trust that you will not abuse the trust and confidence of the people,” he stated.
The Speaker's address set a tone of collaboration, responsibility, and hope, calling on lawmakers to honour their duty to Ghana and contribute to the country’s growth.
