Ban all vigilantes from body politic — Group

The National Youth Leadership Forum (N.Y.L.F) has called on the government and the various state security agencies to disband all paramilitary groups from the body politic of the country.

It said reports from Talensi where the just-ended by-election took place indicated how paramilitary groups, such as the Azorka boys, the Bolga Bull dogs and the Invisible forces, nearly turned the constituency into a war zone.

In a statement from the group, it argued that the protection of Ghana’s sovereign state from any form of aggression was left in the hands of the state security agencies namely, the Armed Forces, the Police Services, the Bureau of National Investigations (B.N.I) and all other state security agencies.

It stated that the Fourth Republican Constitution frowned on the formation of paramilitary groups; hence, the dissolution of the then dreaded 64th Battalion which operated under the reign of President Jerry John Rawlings.

“We at N.Y.L.F wish to appeal to the President, Mr John Dramani Mahama, who is also the Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, to collaborate with the state security agencies to disband all paramilitary groups being formed or supported by political parties with immediate effect,” it stated.

According to the forum, the near clash of such paramilitary groups in the Talensi by-election must be condemned by all well-meaning Ghanaians.
