Bawumia labels Mahama as 'worst performing President' of Ghana's fourth republic
The Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has labelled former President John Mahama as the "worst-performing President of Ghana’s Fourth Republic."
Speaking to a gathering of supporters in Manso Adubia in the Ashanti Region, Dr. Bawumia argued that economic data from Mr. Mahama's administration reveals a lacklustre record in key areas such as GDP, agriculture, and industry.

Since the Fourth Republic began in 1993, Ghana has seen five Presidents: the late Jerry Rawlings, John Agyekum Kufuor, the late John Atta Mills, John Mahama, and Nana Akufo-Addo. According to Dr. Bawumia, a comparison of economic performance data across these administrations highlights Mr. Mahama’s time as particularly deficient.
"Former President Mahama is my main opponent for the 2024 election. He has been President before, but what did he do for Manso Adubia? What development did he bring? Did he even construct a kilometre of tarred road for you?” Dr. Bawumia questioned, asserting that Mr. Mahama’s administration had little impact on the town.
Dr. Bawumia further outlined areas he believes show the Mr. Mahama administration’s poor performance. “When you look at the data for GDP growth, agriculture growth, industry growth, and job creation, Mahama is the worst,” he stated. He also highlighted alleged weaknesses in Mahama’s industrial policies, which he claims contributed to minimal growth in the sector.
In contrast, Dr. Bawumia pointed to the current Akufo-Addo administration’s achievements, stating that they have outperformed the Mahama government in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, and education. "We have done far better than him in roads, jobs, hospitals, schools, railways, sanitation facilities, fish landing sites, libraries, and courts," he said.
