Cadres urge TUC to be circumspect

The United Cadres’ Front (UCF) of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has asked the leadership of the Trades Union Congress to be circumspect in dealing with issues that border on the livelihoods  of Ghanaians.

In a statement signed and issued to the Daily Graphic by the General Secretary of the UCF, Mr Efanam Felix Nyaku, the UCF had noticed with concern the uncompromising stand of the TUC on national matters.

The statement went on to point out the unsavory language used by the General Secretary of the TUC, Mr Kofi Asamoah, in the event of conveying information of economic importance to the public.

According to the UCF, the move to call on the National Tripartite Committee to meet immediately to consider adjusting upwards the daily minimum wage since workers could not contain the current state of price increases smacked of a general strike action any time.

The UCF also described as ‘ungovernable’ the stance of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the issue, particularly the comments by the General Secretary concerning reasons for the present unfortunate state of the economy when he stated that the situation was due to  its poor handling by the government.

The UCF, therefore, called on the leadership of the TUC to join forces with other stakeholders to help stabilise the economy and ensure its rapid growth.

This initiative, the group said, could be achieved by asking workers to step up their productivity rates (which are as low as 40 per cent) to justify the value of the single spine salary regime currently in operation.

Furthermore, the group called on the leadership of the TUC to find pragmatic measures to exterminate the canker of corruption that has engulfed the country.

The group said it was abreast of the fact that the TUC had the mandate to fight for the good of workers, but pleaded with TUC to be meticulous in their operations for the general good of the country.

It also called on the TUC to eliminate all forms of threats and insinuations that threatened national security and stability.
