Govt has no excuse; They've failed Ghanaians -Tony Aidoo
Ambassador-designate, Dr Tony Aidoo has criticized government for its inability to take firm steps to address the economic challenges bedeviling the country.
According to him, government cannot give the excuse that it came into power without realising the huge responsibilities that it was going to incur when voted into power.
Speaking on Accra based radio station - Joy FM, as a studio panelist on the morning show on Wednesday, Dr Aidoo said government has failed in taking steps to address the leakages in the system, particularly at the Ghana Revenue Authority.
He alleged that there was a conspiracy going on at the Authority, saying, “Those dealing with income tax are not doing their work. Those dealing with VAT conspire with ‘vated’ entities not to pay the full value. Those dealing with customs are also conviving with…There is strong material evidence that a great deal of leakages go on in there...There is a conspiracy that has been going on for a very long time".
"And to the extent that this goes on...government has failed Ghanaians. You have no excuse to fail!,” he stated.
Dr Aidoo further noted, "Don't tell me that you came to power without realising the huge responsibilities that you are going to incur when you are voted into power. However onerous the responsibility of governance, it must be done and you have to do it in a way and manner that balance resources and your outgoings. And I think it is about time the leakages stop."
He advised government to stop being “hypocrites” and agree to the reality that “the economy is not working well”.
“We should not be hypocrites and sycophants and pretend that everything is working well," he said.
Dr Aidoo was contributing to discussions on the economy as a studio panelist on Joy FM.
