Competition for poster space at NDC congress

There is an intense competition for space to paste posters of various persons vying for positions at the National Delegates Congress of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.

The posters have almost inundated the Garden City of Kumasi. From walls of innocent landlords, to pavements, islands and medians and isles of roads, telephone and electricity poles, billboards, and rooftops.

Aesthetically designed with very insightful and hilarious messages, some of the posters have found their way on even fresh posters, defacing them, while some bill boards have not been spared.

If the numerous statues in Kumasi could utter a word, they would have complained bitterly about how they are being desecrated with posters.

Surprisingly, some of the posters have been outgrown by weeds and the essence of communicating to delegates is lost.

The posters start welcoming any visitor to the Ashanti Region from all the seven points into the region.

But the major areas that are flooded with the advertisements are the Ejisu Roundabout, Ayigya Roundabout, Bekwai Roundabout and few at the Santasi Roundabout. The two most flooded areas are the Ayigya and Ejisu.

One should not be deceived because a lot of the crowded posters are interspersed with that of candidates for the last two week’s National Youth Organiser election of the party at the Youth Centre at Ahinsan Estates which ended inconclusively.

Messages

Whiles others have just only their names and the positions they are competition for on their posters without any message, neither persuasive nor inciting, other candidates have very funny and humorous message.

“Kpa Kpa Kpa… Change Gear Now, from Defensive to offensive Communication”, this is the message of Mr Kobby Fiagbe who is vying to become the National Propaganda Secretary.

Incumbent National Chairman of the party, Dr Kwabena Adjei’s slogan is “Wayo Wayo” is splashed on the lower portion of the posters.

If the number, size and message of posters are to be used as a yard stick to determine the winners of Saturday’s contest to elect chairman, general secretary, national organiser, vice national chairmen, some candidates will be found wanting, however others would have taken the commanding lead.
