Conduct due diligence on voters register

The Chairman of the Nkawkaw branch of the Merciful Churches Association of Ghana, Apostle Osei Bonsu, has urged the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC) to be diligent in ensuring that the voters register is credible for this year’s presidential and parliamentary elections.

This, according to him, will go a long way to erase doubts in the minds of people and thereby avert post-election conflicts.

"If there is the need to change the voters register, the Electoral Commission should listen to the voice of Ghanaians and replace it to avoid conflict," he added.

Apostle Osei Bonsu was speaking to the Daily Graphic after the first meeting of the association at Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region.

He said he was confident that this year’s general election would be peaceful but called on Ghanaians to continue to pray "since we cannot take the peace of the country for granted."

He, therefore, urged Ghanaians to let peace, respect, tolerance and understanding reign in their hearts for the meaningful development of the country.

 Corruption

Apostle Osei Bonsu urged the government to tackle corruption with the necessary zeal so as to discourage the practice. He said the inability of most people to uphold truth and righteousnes, an attitude which promotes corruption, had greatly hindered initiatives aimed at improving the living conditions of the people, especially the deprived in the Ghanaian society.

He said people who caused financial loss to the state must be duly punished to serve as a deterrent to others.

"Unless Ghanaians change their attitude and uphold the truth, stand by the truth and are prepared to die for the truth, we shall continue to suffer as a nation," he noted.

Apostle Osei Bonsu condemned self-styled men of God who were deceiving their flock with fake miracles, predictions and prophecies instead of leading them to eternal salvation.

A patron of the association, Prophet Ernest Afram, called on the government to reduce taxes on farming inputs and also give soft loans to farmers to enable them to expand their farms.

He also urged the government to assist in checking the activities of Fulani herdsmen in the Kwahu Afram Plains area.
