CPP asks NDC, NPP to lower political tension
The National Chairman of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) Professor Edmund N. Delle, has urged the leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to ensure that they lower the tension in the country.

He said even though the election campaign was not yet at its peak, the accusations thrown at each other was creating anxiety among Ghanaians.
In an interview in Accra yesterday, Professor Delle said it was important that the leadership of the two political parties assured the electorate and the country as a whole that they were for peace and that whatever they were doing was for the betterment of the country.
Media and peace
He also appealed to the media to help reduce the political tempo in the country by being mindful of whatever they carried, “bearing in mind that Ghana comes first before any political party or politician.
“We shall continue to rely on the media to be mindful of the result of a press that is not conscious of the situation of a time,” he added.
Professor Delle further urged the media to blacklist politicians who preached violence or those whose actions and utterances had the tendency to generate tension and violence.
The CPP Chairman reminded politicians that the onus was on them to ensure that their actions did not degenerate into anarchy that they would later regret.
He urged Ghanaians to vote against any political party or its followers that preached violence or whose actions had the potential of generating tension and violence, adding that no political party or individual was bigger than Ghana.

“In everything we do as politicians, let us always put the interest of the country first and above our political parties’ interests. Our priority should be peace,” Professor Delle advised.
CPP and peace
Touching on the position of the CPP on the search for peace, he said, “We stand for peace and any effort towards attaining peace and peaceful process towards this year’s elections will be supported by the party.”
He, therefore, advised politicians to be moderate in their utterances by embarking on issues-based campaigns and not on personal attacks, pledging that the party remained committed to clean campaign towards this year’s elections.
Confidence in state institutions
With regards to state institutions, Professor Delle urged Ghanaians to believe in statutory institutions such as the Electoral Commission (EC), the state security agencies like the police and the military.
He said confidence in these institutions would help build trust in their activities and that would be the beginning of the process to a successful and credible election later this year.
“It is very important for us to believe in our own institutions instead of always thinking that everything outside is the best. We have the best security agencies, the best EC in the sub-region and indeed, we are the envy of many countries,” he said.
Prof. Delle said the founder of the CPP, Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah, preached self-reliance many years ago, which, he said, remained relevant if the country was to move forward. He advised against undermining such institutions.
