CPP salutes women for nation building
A statement signed by Nii Armah Akomfrah, Director of Communication of the CPP to mark Women’s Day which fell on Friday, said “ As the world observes international women’s day, CPP would like to note that and show appreciation for women's economic, political and social achievements”.
The statement saluted all women in Ghana and across the African continent for their immense contribution to human development throughout the numerous years of ongoing struggle and suffering.
In the view of the CPP, the issue of Violence Against Women was an important issue that must be supported.
Though great strides have been made to overcome the situation for women on inequality and discrimination, the CPP believed that their struggle was still a daunting one which involved a collective effort.
It said that the fight therefore for equality and all other forms of social justice was a genuine liberation struggle for men as well as women and discrimination against women must be identified as part of the broader liberation struggle of all Ghanaians and African people.
“We should also remind ourselves that the situation of most women is part of the broader situation of all oppressed people,” the statement added.
The CPP acknowleged the government’s intensions to eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary schools as part of its wider social protection framework, but pointed out that there was still a lot more to be done with disparity in rural education saying “ Parity is currently only seemingly being addressed at the Kindergarten level.”
We call on the NDC Government to review its pro-poor and social intervention programmes such as LEAP, School Feeding Programme and others which have been heavily weighed down by waste in expenditure, to enable them release adequate resources to aid the measures towards gender parity in education, the statement concluded.
